Carmel Apple French Toast

Ingredients

  • 1⁄2 c butter
  • 1 c brown sugar
  • 2 T light corn syrup
  • 3 apples, tart, peeled and sliced very thin
  • 12 sli white bread, slightly stale
  • 6 eggs
  • 1 t vanilla
  • 1 1⁄2 c milk
  • cinnamon & nutmeg to taste

Instructions

1. Over medium heat, melt butter. Add brown sugar and corn syrup, stirring constantly. Just before mixture comes to a boil, pour into a greased 9x12 glass baking dish.

2. Mix eggs, milk, and vanilla together with an electric mixer, beating until frothy.

3. Dip 6 slices of break in egg mixture and arrange on top of carmel. Top bread with sliced apples. Dip remaining bread and place over apples exactly on top of the the bottom layer of bread. Pour remaining egg mixture over bread. Cover and refrigerate overnight.

4. Sprinkle with cinnamon and nutmeg. Bake in 350 degree oven for 30 to 40 minutes.
