Description
Mandel Broit, which literally means almond (mandel) bread (brot), is a twice-baked hard bread similar to Italian biscotti.
Ingredients
- 3 eggs, beaten
- 1 c sugar
- 1⁄2 c oil
- 1 lemon, grated & juiced
- 1 t vanilla
- 1 t almond extract
- 1 c almonds, chopped
- 3 c sifted flour (heaping)
- 3 t baking powder
- 1 t cinnamon
Instructions
1. Mix together wet ingredients.
2. Sift together flour and baking powder.
3. Add flour to wet ingredients with almonds.
4. Form dough into logs. Flatten them a bit so they come out wider rather than rounder.
5. Bake at 350 degrees ona greased baking sheet for 35 minutes.
6. Turn off oven.
7. Remove dough, cut into 3/4" slices and spread on baking sheet.
8. Return of oven for 20-25 minutes.
