Another Jewish holiday classic. Its tough to celebrate a holiday without this dish and the flavors develop more fully if made a day or more ahead. A full-bodied wine is called for here such as a Cabernet or even an Italian Barolo. Rich red blends may also work well here. Brisket makes great leftovers, especially as a sandwich.
Ingredients
- 2-3 pounds beef brisket
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- ¾ cup ketchup
- ¼ red wine vinegar
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tablespoon hoisin sauce
- 1 ½ teaspoons liquid smoke
- ½ cup beef broth
- ½ teaspoon pepper
- 1 ½ teaspoons salt
- 1 bay leaf, crumbled
Directions
- Preheat oven to 325°F. Sprinkle beef with salt and pepper. Place in ungreased 13x9x2” baking dish.
- Mix remaining Ingredients and pour over beef.
- Cover with foil. Cook about 2 hours until beef is tender.
- Slice thin and serve.
