Best Beef Brisket Ever

Recipe by

Another Jewish holiday classic.  Its tough to celebrate a holiday without this dish and the flavors develop more fully if made a day or more ahead.  A full-bodied wine is called for here such as a Cabernet or even an Italian Barolo.  Rich red blends may also work well here.  Brisket makes great leftovers, especially as a sandwich.

Ingredients

  • 2-3 pounds beef brisket
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • ¾ cup ketchup
  • ¼ red wine vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon hoisin sauce
  • 1 ½ teaspoons liquid smoke
  • ½ cup beef broth
  • ½ teaspoon pepper
  • 1 ½ teaspoons salt
  • 1 bay leaf, crumbled

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 325°F. Sprinkle beef with salt and pepper.  Place in ungreased 13x9x2” baking dish.
  2. Mix remaining Ingredients and pour over beef.
  3. Cover with foil. Cook about 2 hours until beef is tender.
  4. Slice thin and serve.
